Abu Dhabi (City tour)

Friday, April 24, 2009

To reach Abu Dhabi, UAE's capital city, we pass by Jebel Ali, the largest man-made port in the world. An ultra modern city, Abu Dhabi is situated on an island. Only 50 years ago, the city was no more than a fort surrounded by a modest village of date palm huts. After the discovery of oil, in 1958, it has bloomed into a major city with skyscrapers and glittering glass facades dotting the skyline. A generous creation of parks and gardens made it one of the greenest cities in the region.
If you are in Abu Dhabi, make sure that you have enough camera rolls and batteries because the city is considered a "Picturesque City", very beautiful and very welcoming. You'll get the chance to visit the Petroleum Exhibition, where you'll see an informative film detailing the amazing rise of the city in the last 30 years, which will introduce you to the strengths of modern of Abu Dhabi. Moreover, you'll see the traditional way of dhow-building at the dhow harbour, followed by a photo session at the marvelous Al Husn Palace. The tour is incomplete without a long, relaxing drive along the scenic Corniche, and the Al Bateen Palace area.
