Islamic Architectural and Traditional Mosque (Grand Masjid Dubai)



The Grand Mosque Dubai is counted among one of the largest mosques (with a capacity to accommodate up to 1200 worshippers) in United Arab Emirates. Originally constructed in traditional Islamic architectural style and opened in 1900 A.D as a kuttab (Quranic school) where children learnt to recite the Quran from memory, the Grand Mosque of Dubai was rebuilt (maintaining the style of the original Grand Mosque) in 1998 and now boasts a 70 meters (231ft) high minaret- the tallest minaret in Dubai.

Situated on the Bur Dubai side of the creek, near the Ruler's Court, the Grand Mosque consists of 45 small domes in addition to 9 large ones boasting stained glass panels, sand-colored walls and wooden shutters. It is the main center of worship and important monument of Dubai.

The new Grand Mosque's sand-colored walls and wooden shutters blend perfectly with the surrounding old quarter of Bur Dubai, is known for its size and elaborate design. The best time to see it is at night, when it is spectacularly lit up.

The Grand Mosque of Dubai is done up in Persian style as it contains blue mosaic type work, domes and sand hued facades. The mosque also contains handmade stained glass and wooden structures.

Non- Muslims are not allowed entry in the Grand Mosque. But they can visit the minaret and click picture of the mosque from therein.

AL Mamzar Beach Park Dubai





A public beach at Al Mamzar Park on the Deira side of the Creek. The public facilities include playgrounds, barbecue sites, food kiosks, and picnic areas for families at Palm beach.

Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي‎ "Dubai Tower") is a supertall skyscraper under construction in the Downtown Burj Dubai district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure ever built, despite being incomplete. Construction began on 21 September 2004, and the tower is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy by September 2009.

The building is part of the 2 km2 (0.8 sq mi) development called "Downtown Burj Dubai" at the "First Interchange" along Sheikh Zayed Road at Financial Centre Road (previously known as Doha Street). The tower's architect is Adrian Smith who worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) until 2006. The architecture and engineering firm SOM is in charge of the project. The primary builders are Samsung Engineering & Construction and Besix along with Arabtec. Turner Construction Company was chosen as the construction manager.

The total budget for the Burj Dubai project is about US$4.1 billion and for the entire new 'Downtown Dubai', US$20 billion Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the CEO of Emaar Properties, speaking at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat 8th World Congress, said that the price of office space at Burj Dubai had reached $4,000 per sq ft (over $43,000 per sq m) and that the Armani Residences, also in Burj Dubai, were selling for US$3,500 per sq ft (over $37,500 per sq m).

Our first stop is at the King Faisal Mosque, the biggest mosque in the UAE. From there, we go on a panoramic drive to the Cultural Square. After that, we continue the journey to the Majarrah Souk which has a unique golden dome with an intricate mosaic of the 12 signs of the zodiac.

The next stop will be at the renovated heritage site of Al Naboodah House, the scene that takes you about 150 years back where you can see how people lived then, the previous generations and different branches of a family, all under one roof. We'll wind up the city tour with a visit to the bustling fish & vegetable market and the Blue Souk, packed with tempting gold shops and traditional Arabic shops that beckons the tourists & shoppers.

Abu Dhabi (City tour)



To reach Abu Dhabi, UAE's capital city, we pass by Jebel Ali, the largest man-made port in the world. An ultra modern city, Abu Dhabi is situated on an island. Only 50 years ago, the city was no more than a fort surrounded by a modest village of date palm huts. After the discovery of oil, in 1958, it has bloomed into a major city with skyscrapers and glittering glass facades dotting the skyline. A generous creation of parks and gardens made it one of the greenest cities in the region.

We'll make an early departure using 4x4 heading for an adventurous drive on tarred roads through the white sands and green fields of Al Aweer and Al Hibab.

The red dunes of Nizwa greet us on a journey that will take us through the Valley of Maleiha, which merges with the desert of the Rub'Al Khali and the western Hajar mountains. Off road, we'll pass by wadis, big and small, and cross lush landscape that surrounds the small settlements and villages deep in the mountains. There is an opportunity to swim, depending on the water level, so don't forget your swim suits and towels.

This is followed by a visit to the Heritage Village.
